Fine Arts Programme

Banja Luka and the Republic of Srpska have a remarkable tradition of artistic creativity. Jovan Bjelić, Stojan Ćelić, Sreten Stojanović, Nedeljko Gvozdenović, Boško Karanović and many others painters have come from this area. They were trained at prestigious academies and gave a huge contribution to the cultural heritage of our nation. With their pedagogical work, they are, in a way, the founders of our teaching programme. Basically, our teaching modules are designed like the ones in the surrounding countries and beyond.

Centuries-long European experiences in the education of artists are woven into the curriculum. At the beginning of the study, the teaching is based on classical methods of studying fine art. In the final years, students establish their own contemporary artistic expressions; they translate classical knowledge into a contemporary context. Second cycle studies emphasize an independent research and accumulation of theoretical and practical knowledge about contemporary art.

The primary purpose of the Fine Arts Programme is educating the artists who will use their artistic activities to improve the art scene in the city, the Republic and the region. Encouraging the initiatives for their artistic activity is the most important goal as well as their developing critical awareness of their work and the phenomena that make contemporary art practice. The artists who have acquired their education at our Academy have been contributing to the popularization of positive artistic ideas and knowledge. This will improve the quality of the cultural life of the city, the Republic of Srpska and Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well.

The Fine Arts Programme includes these departments as follows:

1. Painting
2. Printmaking
3. Graphic Design
