Composition Department

  • Who enrolls in Composition Department?

The Composition Department is intended for future students who want to explore and shape their creative potentials, engaging themselves in compositional work in the field of solo music, vocal music, vocal and instrumental music, chamber and electronic music, and to improve their artistic expression skills and expand knowledge about the Application Process of technology in music.

    Studies

During the four-year Bachelor and one-year Master studies in Composition course, our students acquire competencies for independent artistic practice, educational and creative work in primary and secondary music schools. Studies enable mastering of fundamental theoretical disciplines, introduction to classical and modern methods of composing, acquisition of practical musical knowledge and skills, and work on independent and group interdisciplinary projects within festivals, such as cultural events organized by the Academy of Arts (Vlado S. Milosevic's Days and hematic concerts called Contemporary Music Evening) and participation in projects of Dramatic Arts Programme students - music for movies and plays, etc.

    What after studies?

Completed studies in composition offer a wide range of possible job positions. The positions which stand out are those that are directly related to solo artist career and pedagogical work. A graduate composer, in addition to his/her competencies for work in cultural institutions and in the media, is qualified to work in theater and film, composing, orchestrating, arranging and transcribing sheet music.
